Auto Insurance Facts

Auto insurance can be a complicated matter. Many people have an auto insurance policy but may not know exactly what the insurance covers or what to do if they need to use their insurance.  Understanding the basic two types of car insurance is important to ensure you get the right coverage you need.

Full Coverage:

This type of auto insurance covers your vehicle in case you have an accident, unlike basic liability, which covers only the other driver’s vehicle. Full coverage includes state-mandated minimum liability coverage. Additionally, full coverage includes the comprehensive or collision:

  • Collision protects your vehicle if it is damaged in an accident.
  • Comprehensive provides protection if your vehicle is damaged by something other than a collision, such as your car being stolen, fire, vandalism, or hitting a deer.
Liability Coverage:

This type of coverage covers the damages when you are at fault in an accident, and you damage someone else’s car or property. Liability insurance does not cover you and your vehicle. Liability coverage has two parts: bodily injury liability and property damage liability. Arizona drivers must obtain an auto insurance policy that includes a minimum amount of liability coverage. Arizona’s minimum liability coverage includes:

  • Bodily Injury
    • $25,000 in bodily injury coverage for each injured person
    • $50,000 in bodily injury coverage total per accident
  • Property Damage
    • $15,000 in property damage coverage per accident
